You might be better off buying a lower end iMac for work purposes and getting a dedicated gaming PC though, but this could end up costing a lot more money. I would stay away from base level iMacs for gaming but they're fine for general computing or light work tasks. I bought my iMac for studying purposes and I specced it to be able to play games as well so I wouldn't need to buy an additional PC for gaming. But I wouldn't buy an iMac for the sole purpose of gaming, you can get a better PC for that money. The monitor is brilliant as well, games look beautiful on it. The current top end model can be specced with an 8-core or 10-core intel processor and a 5700XT, which is plenty for current games (but of course an RTX 3090 would deliver much better performance). iMacs are fine for gaming as long as you get the top end model. I regularly use my iMac for gaming when I'm not using it for study.
